About these figures

The 1994 election was run by a temporary electoral commission, before today's IEC. These figures are from the IEC's 1994 results document, the only 1994 data the IEC holds. It has no registered voters, spoilt votes or turnout, and no results below province level.

Valid votes are the sum of the parties' votes in the IEC document, which gives no provincial total.

Province names are as in 1994. The nine provinces were created in April 1994, replacing the four old provinces and the homelands; the old Transvaal was split into PWV (Pretoria–Witwatersrand–Vereeniging), Eastern Transvaal, Northern Transvaal and part of North West. Soon after the election PWV became Gauteng, Eastern Transvaal became Mpumalanga, Northern Transvaal became Northern Province and Orange Free State became Free State. Northern Province became Limpopo in 2003. The map uses the IEC's 1999 province boundaries.

Percentages are calculated from the IEC's vote counts. Source: IEC: 1994 National and Provincial Elections (PDF).
