Update on Secunda Power Interruption 11 August 2026 Govan Mbeki Municipality wishes to provide residents and affected customers with an update regarding the power interruption currently affecting areas supplied by RS4 and RS3 in Secunda. The municipality has established that the outage was caused by an attempted theft and vandalism incident at RS3. The incident resulted in damage to critical electrical infrastructure and has affected the electricity supply to the surrounding areas. As part of the restoration process, the Ring Main Unit (RMU) at RS3 will have to be replaced before electricity supply can be safely restored. Municipal electricity teams are attending to the necessary repairs and restoration work. The municipality appeals to residents and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around electrical infrastructure. Acts of theft and vandalism not only damage essential municipal infrastructure but also disrupt electricity services to communities and pose a serious safety risk. Customers are strongly urged to treat all electrical installations as live at all times, as electricity supply may be restored without prior notice. The municipality sincerely apologises to affected customers for the inconvenience caused and appreciates their patience and understanding while repair and restoration work is underway.
