[FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF EXPLOSIVES IN RUSTENBURG AND THABAZIMBI] On Tuesday afternoon, 4 August 2026, members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Rustenburg acted on intelligence-driven information received regarding the illegal sale of explosives. The members swiftly responded and intercepted three suspects at the Rustenburg Mall parking area, where they were found in possession of five non-electric detonators and two explosive cartridges. Three cellular phones believed to be linked to the investigation were also seized for further investigation. Further investigation led members to Thabazimbi, where they, together with Crime Intelligence members, arrested a fourth suspect who was found in possession of 29 non-electric detonators. All four suspects were arrested for unlawful possession of explosives in contravention of Section 28 of the Explosives Act, 1956 (Act 26 of 1956). The suspects are expected to appear before the respective Magistrates’ Courts soon. Police investigations are continuing. The Acting District Commissioner of Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, commended the members for their swift action and professionalism, stating that the successful recovery of illegal explosives demonstrates SAPS’ commitment to combating serious crime and ensuring the safety of communities. #fightingcrime #TrioCrimes
