#Fraud An organisation called the Polokwane Delivery Drivers is calling on restaurants and retail stores to introduce stricter driver verification measures to curb alleged profile-sharing, account leasing and other fraudulent activities linked to food delivery platforms. The organisation says its members have observed an increase in alleged fraudulent practices involving both South African and foreign national drivers. It also alleges that there are reports of Uber Eats accounts being opened fraudulently and shared with other individuals. The organisation's chairperson Ralph Ramello says they are appealing to restaurants and retail stores to verify the identity of drivers collecting orders by checking their identity documents, driver's licences, passports or work permits against the information displayed on the delivery app. He adds that while they acknowledge that businesses are not legally required to verify documents, he believes the practice could help deter fraud and order theft, while keeping customers safe.
