Limpopo Police Commissioner Lt Gen Jan Scheepers has condemned violence, looting and property damage linked to an alleged anti-foreigner march in Northam.
Police arrested 16 suspects, aged 21 to 45, for public violence after the group allegedly assaulted residents, looted a foreign-owned spaza shop, damaged vehicles and set one vehicle alight. Investigators have also linked the suspects to theft, assault and robbery cases from the previous day.
The suspects are due to appear in the Northam Magistrate’s Court on 3 August 2026, while police say further arrests may follow.
