Five suspected hijackers arrested in intelligence-driven operation: Five suspected members of a hijacking syndicate were arrested in Muldersdrift, on the West Rand, following an intelligence-driven operation involving SAPS Crime Intelligence, Gauteng TRT, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect. The suspects, who used a Toyota Urban Cruiser to carry out hijackings in Gauteng, North West and surrounding provinces, were intercepted on the N14 after intelligence indicated they were travelling from the Hartbeespoort area. Police recovered an unlicensed firearm stolen during the hijacking of a Toyota Hilux in Potchefstroom on 4 August, along with ammunition, reflective vests, cellphones and the suspected getaway vehicle. The hijacking victim had been kidnapped and later released in Soweto. The suspects face multiple charges, and investigators are working to determine whether they are linked to other hijackings.
