NATIONAL COMMUNITY POLICE CONSULTATIVE FORUM (NCPCF) MEDIA STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NCPCF CALLS FOR PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATIONS, VIGILANCE AGAINST CRIMINALITY, AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT The National Community Police Consultative Forum (NCPCF) has noted the planned demonstrations and marches taking place in various parts of South Africa concerning concerns around illegal foreign nationals and related socio-economic challenges. The NCPCF wishes to remind all South Africans that the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa guarantees every citizen the right to peaceful assembly, demonstration, picketing and petition. These rights remain fundamental pillars of our democracy and must be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law. The NCPCF therefore calls upon all demonstrators, organizers, communities and stakeholders to ensure that all activities remain peaceful, lawful and respectful of the rights of others. ROLE OF NCPCF STRUCTURES The NCPCF directs all Provincial Boards, District Structures, Community Police Forums (CPFs), Sector Crime Forums, Youth Crime Prevention Desks (YCPDs), Community In Blue Patrollers (CIBPs) and affiliated community safety structures to remain vigilant and actively support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability within their respective communities. These structures are encouraged to: - Act as the eyes and ears of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other law enforcement agencies. - Provide timely information and early warning reports relating to potential threats to public safety. - Assist in identifying risks that may lead to violence, looting, public disorder or destruction of infrastructure. - Encourage dialogue and de-escalation within communities where tensions may arise. - Promote lawful conduct and respect for human rights during demonstrations. - Strengthen communication channels between communities, SAPS and relevant authorities. The NCPCF further urges all structures to avoid direct confrontation with demonstrators and to immediately report any criminal activities
