[WESTERN CAPE POCC MEMBERS SEIZE FIREARM AND DRUGS IN LANGA] An intelligence driven operation by members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods policing team led to the apprehension of two suspects for firearm and drug related offences in Langa on Sunday, 09 August 2026. The arrests follow a mass shooting incident which claimed the lives of five victims at Winnie Mandela Street, Phase 3, Langa last night (08 August 2026). The members followed up on information received and went to a house in Winnie Mandela Street where they found a 24-year-old male suspect. They searched the premises and recovered six rounds of ammunition and a black pair of gloves from the boot of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect then led the police to Sanitizer informal settlement, Zone 30, where he had concealed a 9mm firearm without a serial number and eight rounds of ammunition, as well as a pair of white gloves. He was subsequently arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The operation continued to an address in Slovo Informal settlement, where a 41-year-old male suspect was found in possession of mandrax tablets, ecstasy tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash. Both suspects will make their first court appearance at the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026. #GunsOffTheStreets
