[POLICE SEIZE COUNTERFEIT OLIVE OIL PRODUCTS WORTH MORE THAN R79 000 IN JOHANNESBURG CENTRAL] The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng continues to intensify efforts to combat the trade in counterfeit, contraband and illicit goods across the province. Members of the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, the Provincial Head Office Commercial Crime Unit, Border Police at City Deep, and brand protection representatives conducted a search-and-seizure operation in Johannesburg Central, Johannesburg District. The operation targeted three shops in the Johannesburg Central area following information regarding the alleged sale and distribution of counterfeit products. During the operation, police seized 991 counterfeit olive oil products with an estimated value of R79 280. Two suspects were arrested. #SAPS Gauteng remains committed to disrupting the #IllicitTrade in counterfeit and illegal goods, which undermines legitimate businesses, infringes on intellectual property rights and may pose risks to consumers.
