[POLICE ARREST ATTEMPTED MURDER SUSPECT AND RECOVER ILLEGAL FIREARMS DURING OPERATIONS IN EMZINONI AND BALFOUR] The South African Police Service in Mpumalanga continues to intensify its efforts in the fight against crime through integrated operational deployments aimed at tracing wanted suspects and removing illegal firearms from communities. On Sunday, 02 August 2026, members attached to Emzinoni SAPS members successfully traced and arrested a suspect wanted in connection with an attempted murder case that was reported in July 2026. During the arrest, police recovered a firearm, a magazine and ammunition. Preliminary investigations suggest that the firearm may have been used in the commission of the offence. In a separate incident, members attached to Balfour SAPS arrested a suspect for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Members recovered an R5 rifle with its serial number filed off, a 9mm Norinco pistol with its serial number also removed, an empty 9mm magazine, two R5 magazines loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, as well as an additional 72 rounds of live R5 ammunition found in a separate plastic bag.
