Alexandra electricity infrastructure arrests: Two suspects were arrested over the weekend in separate incidents involving alleged tampering with JHB City Power infrastructure. On Sunday, 16 August, residents alerted security after seeing three men digging near a mini-substation in 9th Avenue. One suspect was arrested; two others fled. On Friday, 14 August, another suspect was arrested while allegedly working without authorisation on a mini-substation in 8th Avenue. His tools were confiscated. City Power praised residents for reporting suspicious activity and warned that tampering can cause outages, damage equipment and endanger lives. Infrastructure-related incidents declined from 1,138 in 2024/25 to 1,054 in 2025/26. Residents are urged to report cable theft, vandalism, illegal connections and suspicious activity to City Power.
